do you turn off power heads when adding sand

    Do you turn off the power heads after you add sand to help it settle?

    or is it better to leave them on?

    thanks for all the thoughts , i guess ill leave them on , i noticed alot of activity it the sand, so turned on the heaters and the pumps

    Yes, you should turn off all pumps. It will also help to pour the sand down a piece of PVC pipe, or lower it slowly to the bottom in a cup or dish.

    I actually think it's better to add sand prior to water,you want the least movement possible when adding things that can cloud clarity
