will a 75 gallon or a 29 gallon evaporate more water in a week. the reason i ask this is because i want ot upgrade to a 75 thsi summer but dont have enough money for more than ten gallons a week or less. which is all i need for top off and a 10% water change. just wondering.

more water volume = more evaporation

I have a 90 with 30 gal in sump and mine takes about a gallon a day, but I also live in a dry climate.

so if i had a humidifier then it would help slow down evaporation? if i used tap water could that get into my tank? just wondering..

evaporation is a function of surface area and kinetic energy (energy of activation)

so since the tanks are the same temperature, the one with more surface area will be faster.

you don't need RO water for the humidifier but it is better for it. You could also fit lids on the tank/sump to help with evaporation, if you are worried about O2 then you could put an airstone in the sump.

i was thinking since evaporation is the problem (thats not a problem) i would add a Auto Top Off device of some sorts that might help if ur issue is filling it or fluctuation in salinity also sounds like u might need to save up for a ro di unit and buy salt in bulk , a ro di unit would save you a bunch of money and hassle

i was considering, to put glass panes on top of the DT. that was the evap would slow. the sump would remain open. less surface area and still have gas exchange/cooling. you wouldnt have any salt creep up to the lights as well. has anyone put glass between lights and the water?

it reduces your PAR so if you have a lot of corals and not super strong lights, you may have growth problems
