No problem. The way the sump is designed I am sure I can easily modify it to hold different bags. I mean it is a great thing that they remove all this stuff from the water but its getting expensive. And it sucks to know how dirty my water really is. lol

I wouldn't replace the eshoppes bags. There really great at trapping what you don't want in the tank. Mine are rectangle 7" and once a week I throw them in my washer and they come out very clean with no bleach or soaps.

Anytime. In my opinion I haven't found a nicer sock than eshoppes. The material and stitch are great quality. I've used some cheaper socks before and they didn't trap as much and only lasted a month.

I own a Local Fish Store and we use about forty socks a week on our systems. To clean them , first we turn them inside out and spray the dirt off with a power nozzle on the hose or a pressure washer. Then we put them in a bucket with regular bleach about a cup to each 5 gallon bucket full of socks and water . We leave them in bleach for at least a few hours if not over night. Then we lay all the socks out flat and spray them off on both sides and inside and out. Last, we hang them up to dry in the sun on a PVC pipe. As soon as the socks are COMPLETELY DRY, they are ready to use. Bleach evaporates and as long as there is no bleach smell left the socks are safe. If you have to use one before they are ready, then you can put them in a bucket with a big dose of Prime or any good declhorinater. It sounds scary to use bleach I know, but it's actually very safe - I've been doing it this way for fifteen years in the fish business. What is not completely safe is using ANY washing machine that regularly has detergent put through it, residue from soap can definitely hurt your fish and coral.

That's why I run the washer empty before I put my socks in there to rinse out any soap residue. My fish and corals have been doing great for more than a year doing it this way. Greg, bleach is safe if you take the right precautions but if your not comfortable then rinsing them out by hand or washer is perfectly fine.

Thanks for all the help guys. I have 2 dirty socks and just put a new one on. When that one needs changing I am going to give the washing machine a shot with no bleach. If that doesnt do enough then I will very carefully try the bleach. lol thanks again

I agree this is how I handled them. The bleach rinses out in the was. I usually use the extra rinse on my washer.
