just curious if anyone on here makes a little spare cash selling frags either online through here or on craigslist? I am kinda interested in maybe selling some frags on craigslist. If I am going to do it i will need to upgrade to another tank (my sinister plan to get the wife to let me get a big tank!). What kind of money do any of you guys bring in a month?

I haven't sold any frags yet, but I'm planning on selling an ORA Green Birdsnest within a week or 2 on here. You can also make sell the frags by hosting frag swaps at your house.

The way to actually make money is to have a very large, very stable, established system. Atleast a couple hundred gallons. Otherwise the money made in comparison to your overhead (power, frag plugs, filter membranes, ect.) takes away almost all your profit. If you love to do it your tank can in theory pay for itself. However it often times doesnt seem to work out this way. Setting up another tank to sell some frags is a great idea though. Its what the hobby is all about. You may not see a big return for a while, but if you pay attention to the market and what people want and are successful in growing it you can make a couple bucks.

im not looking to make a living off it or make a huge return, if I could get it to the point where I could net 200 a month that would be awesome.

Depending on the size of grow out you have and the population of your area determines what you can make.

I started with a frag rack in my DT and made enough each month to pay for salt and other supplies. When I moved up to a 16"X16" frag tank I began making enough that I had money in pocket. I used the extra to buy used small tanks and made more frag systems as well as returned to rearing African Cichlids because they are very popular in my region.

Shipping is a huge hassle and it's very expensive unless you are sending out numerous packages weekly and get a discount.

Via local clubs and occasionally to LFS for credit/trades; sure. Enough to cover my monthly costs? Not even close. :)

selling coral is also a way for me to finally convince the wife to let me get a big tank, is there any way I would be able to net 200 a month from a 125 gallon tank that was all coral or is that just a pipe dream?

Down the road it is possible, but the costs of setting it up ware very very high. It would take a long time to get to that point. Probably way past the point that your wife would tolerate it. lol

I want to do this! But the only corals I have in surplus are ones nobody wants x)
In all seriousness, I would be happy if I could make enough money to pay break even with my livestockand equipment costs.
