does chaeto algae need lighting

I was just curious my friend is giving me some chaeto algae for my tank. and some people have lighting on it in the refugiums and some dont. My question is, is do i need to have lighting for it or is it just recommended.

Yes it does. I've never heard of anyone not running a light on any refugium that has macros

 

yep it is a plant definitely needs lighting. 2 wpg for the fuge should be enough

 

It will fall apart and die off in messy clumps if it doesn't get enough light and food source.

 

I just started my refigium with Chaetomorpha...I am running on 13 Watt (equal to normal 75 watt) lights...Can I run the lights 24 hours?

There are pros & cons to doing that... it seems best to have the refugium light run in a cycle opposite of the main tank lighting... this helps to minimize the pH changes during the evening and provides the needed light for growth and rest....
