Does it make sense to get a controller?
Now that I have the Kessil 360w LEDs I want to get their controller. But wondered if I should get an Apex to handle more than lights. I just don’t know anything about them. I have a 100g mixed reef tank. I did a search and looks like Apex runs around $400. But would still need addition units to read salinity and/or PH. Is that correct?
Being a able to control things from my phone seems cool but don’t really have $400. The Kessil controller is $100. I use MP1200 and MP900 circulation pumps so not sure I could connect them to an Apex anyway.
Guess I need help with this and assume most of you have an Apex.

I recently put a used Apex on my tank and can't believe I waited this long.
It is nice to know what your PH really is and all you have to do is glance over at display or log in.
    Temp is right there also.
No more unplugging this and that
Since I know my true temp now I was able to set my heater and fan so that I keep a .5 (78-78.5)temp difference. Heater kicks on at 77.9 and off 78.3. Fan kicks on at 78.5 and off 78.2.
I have put my reactor, protein skimmer on it also which is nice for a quick shutoff so I can dump the skim.
    Auto-topoff is also connected
Fuge light (no more timer needed)
My led has its own controller to configure its sunrise to sunset but also has a display on front which is very bright(and is in bedroom.. a little more than a nightlight) so I need to add that on so I can at least have the complete display shutdown.

I have only touched the surface with this controller and will slowly add stuff(due to cost).

My suggestion is try to find someone selling a setup that has the controller you are looking for and make an honest offer. You will save money and get a lot of the added probes etc.

It is a big investment but is one of the best I made.

Neptune has a great customer service. I had some problems with my apex and they were quick to help diagnose it and send replacement parts. They even helped me do some programming that was out-smarting me. My Apex came with temp and pH probes and the EB8 outlet. They have lots of add-ons and everything is easily programmable.
I am curious about the reef angel just for my own piece of mind.

I'm not happy with ecotecs vortech web interface and am saving up a few extra $$ to get neptune's WXM controller for vortechs and radions.

Think I might not be ready for Apex. I don't dose. I do that myself for alk and mag.
Seems like Apex is meant for people that do everything. PH, temp, salinity, dose, pumps, gfo, etc. maybe once I get dose pumps I could use something as powerful as apex?

Just because you are not ready today does not mean you wont be tomorrow. I love my Apex!
