Part of my problem is my wife. I just spent $1,100 on Lessil LEDs. And here is how I pay for anything tank related. Cash back. $10 here $20 there. I do that and save it when I grocery shop. Asked my LFS to get the Kessils so I could pay cash and keep total cost away from wife. She would divorce me if knew how much they actually are. I have $100 now and could get Kessil controller. Apex is months of saving and that's why I'm questioning this. If I'm not ready pick my battles.
Example I use my $100 and get Kessil controller. Then every $20 I get can go towards frags :)
    I'm a loser

In 3 + years of reefing, I think I've checked my Ph.....................
    ............... maybe 3 times?

Alk about every 1 to 2 weeks.

I drip Kalwasser daily, I don't have any dosing pumps, or GFO, etc.
If my skimmer overflows, it goes back to where it came from.
MY ato is fully automated- LOL- no electricity, no pumps, no sensors
and it auto fills with no electricity.

I realize controllers are nice, IF you need them.
    I'm not ready for one.....yet.

I know lots of people who have them though, and even a few who sold thiers- that is rare while they're still reefing though.

ha ha.. Just go with the kessil controller. It is much easier to explain a $100 than it would be to explain 100's.

Yes I have the full version. I first got it because of my lights I wanted to be able to control them, I have Acans, I started adding to my build, and started using more features. You can take a look at my sump room build and see some of what I use them for, but a few key features I LOVE are -
    1. I have a float switch in my skimate container that if I get a run off and am not home it will shut the skimmer off to avoid a flood.
    2. I have float switches in all 3 tanks that are plumed in together that if the water rises due to an overflow clog or issue it will kill the return pump to avoid a major flood.

Do you need a controller - no - can you benefit with one - YES! IMO if you are going to get an APEX get the full version.
You will get both sides and I get both sides. My preference is a controller and ever since I got one - LOVE it.

Seems like kalk is way to go. It's sorta like a 3 in 1 right?

LOL ballgame you and I are a lot alike. If my wife knew how much some of my equipment cost I'd be sleeping with the fishes.
With that said I love that the Apex has so many options. I might not want or need all the features now but what about tomorrow. Just my two cents.

Ha ha you all crack me up.. Sounds like me the first 5(18 years at this point) or so years of being married and having a tank. I have learned 2 things(and no ladies that's not all ha ha)

    1) When talking to wife about fish tank hint around about what you want(I always try to find a website or youtube videos). It may not happen for a while but every so often give a little hint how you really would like 1 and the benefits. Sooner or later they will come to accept it. Wife taught me this trick(that is how she got her truck years ago..that hurt the pocket)!!!

    2) Consider getting the wife a small tank. Once the wife got her own tank(I still maintain it) she has not really blinked an eye at anything and we are also able to keep each other in check money wise when at LFS.

    3) If not ready for a tank let her pick out corals for your tank. Just get her involved and you will reap the benefits.

    4) worst comes to worst hide it ha ha ha
