I was given a small container of Kent Kalkwasser mix. The date on the price tag is Jan. 2003.

    Is it still fine?

    eBay for $4.

I bought it to kill aiptasia. A long time Reef guy told me that it is what he has used for years with great success. He said mix it into a paste and squeeze it into the center of the aiptasia and they drop dead.

if your just using it to kill aiptasia, I don't think you'll have any problems.
Calcium hydroxide in dry form shouldn't go bad in just a couple years like that.

    Agreed.

I guess I'll disagree Hydrated lime is just that and only way it will degrade is to have it opened to the CO2 in the atmosphere .. It has a shelf life of a rock As long as its kept sealed .. And I also used to think and still do feel Lime water is weaken after a week or so of exposer to th atmosphere and the CO2

I also used to store it like this ibut one of the people here posted me a link to see what Lord Randy water God had to say about this subject and his words of wisdom that said I was wrong as he kept vats of the Lime water with little to no degradation of the strength or quality of the stored water . I sill will disagree with his opinion no that .. I would use a Kalk reactor if I where to not use the mix in a few days. I myself when I used to mix it used two Tbl spoons to a gallon then stired it really slow so not to mix in air then sealed it rally tight in a old salt bucket and allowed it to set and bind up as much of any PO4's as it could.

Thanks all. Knowing that I am using it to kill aiptasia - I guess my real question was can it turn into a "problem".
