I haven't really done anything with my tank for a year and a half, other than adding water when needed. The filters have been running, but no water changes. Obviously no corals or critters.

I am now getting ready to redo my setup (FOWLR) and was wondering if my live rock is still usable, or should I look at it as base rock.

Believe it or not, there is still a good amount of coraline on these rocks.

I would have to say that it is just fine. Check your parameters and if they are okay I would go from there.

You might want to do a water change and also you might want to add something like a frozen shrimp or something to start it again but I am sure its fine. It not like you shut it down completely, it has been running so you should be way ahead of the battle.

filters running but are they being maintained? and no water changes sounds nasty. how does the water smell?lol. i dunno dude i say BLEACH it!!!.

you can always seed your tank after. part of the fun with this hobby is to watch things grow IMO.

good luck with whatever you do.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Actually I have been cleaning the filter media and keeping my skimmer clean. The water smells fine. I just got totally distracted with other matters. I do plan on changing out my sand bed...that does look nasty and full of "stuff" that will most likely cause algae problems down the road.
