    Hi all,
My first post here ever. I did a couple of tests on my water quality, can someone advise me if the following parameters look good?

    PH 8.6
    KH 10dkh
    No2 0.0 mg/l
    No3 25mg/l
    Po4 1.0mg/1
    Ca 700mg/l

I am using a trickle filter, with bio balls. I removed the bio balls last night hopefully it will bring down the No3. I'll be doing the test again in another 3-4 days to see what effect that has had.

But so far, does it sound alright?

May want to recheck your test results. pH of 8.6 is quite high.. Wouldn't even know what type of sea salt to get it to that level, and your Calcium is at 700? Should be around 400-450... I would imagine that sitting at 700, it should be precipitating out of the water. I would seriously think about taking a water sample to your LFS and having it checked out, or buy some new test kits.

Thanks for your response. I will perform the tests again, plus I'll get some ph buffer to reduce it. What should a typical PH reading be?

When you took the bioballs out did you replace them with anything like LR? There needs to be something in there for the bacteria to stay on.

Other than that your Ca is through the roof. Do a water change. (I had the same prob except mine was at 600). pH is a little high but hopefully a big water change would help that too.

How old is the tank? What does it have in it? I'm going to assume that it has an algae prob because of the nitrates and phosphates (which are high, might try some PO4 removing media).

    Keep us updated.:)

Ph should be 8.0 to 8.2 as far as I know.

I would think that with a calcium level as high as 700, that your alkalinity, strontium and magnesium levels would be depleted. This has an effect on the stability on your pH as well.
I find it odd that your KH level is at 10 with a very high calcium and pH level!

PH, KH, No3, Po4, and Ca all are elevated. What kit are you using? A KH of 10 and Ca of 700 is highly unlikely, try to verify it with another brand if possible.

    Roger on Ca.

What kind of salt mix you are using? --- have only ever seen anywhere near that high when I once upon a time made mistake of using Oceanic.

    Are you putting in additives???

If not, either your test kit is whacko, or you are not using right. :-/
