This is maybe a really dumb question but in a tank I bought (75 gal) the silicone around the bottom seems like its really heavy and the last guy redid it. It passed my leak test so I think any changes I would make if any would be cosmetic. Tell me what you think.

Hi, it looks fine but since I don't know what your leak test was, I would suggest filling it half way with just tap water and let sit for a day and then fill to 3/4 and let sit and then full for a day. This way you are putting it under more and more pressure.

That's how I did my test since I got this on a craiglist sort of deal. I wasn't really worried I just wondered what the norm was.

Make sure the outside of the tank looks well sealed as well. With the lip, it may be hard to see, but just take a look to see if there is any water residue (or salt creep residue). I second the notion of putting tap water in it. I personally would fill it all the way, that way you will have near the full weight capacity that the tank will bear. Filling it part of the way may be ok, but when you have 1000lbs of water, sand and rock in there when it's completely filled and stocked, it's a huge difference. Better to find out if it can handle that kind of weight without all your livestock in there. I would also fill it up in your garage, just in case it does break/leak, you don't have to worry about it getting all over your floor in the house.
As far as asthetics of the silicon, I wouldn't worry about that at all. Your sand will cover that up anyway. Functionality is more important than looks in this case. :)

They already did the leak test guy's and gal's they just wants to know if it should look that way. Unless you use caulk all the time it is really hard to get the nice clean lines that they do when they do it at a factory. It looks fine just a little bit of extra silicone thats all.

the only dumb question is one that isn't asked.
