I am picking up around 60 pounds of live rock today to finish off my rockscape. It is from another mature tank that a friend is taking down so would I need to cure it before putting it into my tank? My tank is about 5-6 months old and livestock are Flame and Koran Angel, Two green chromis and a fire shrimp and horseshoe crab. I would like to be able to just put it in when I get back since I figured it had already been cured and would not make my nitrates go up. Any suggestions? Tank is a 150 gallon.

It should not as long as it does not get dry. Keep it wet and underwater preferably and all should be fine.

+1 the curing is usually necessary due to die off from transport. you shouldn't have any issues moving the rocks from his tank to yours......assuming he doesn't have anything living on the rocks that you don't want. :)

He lives about an hour away so if I bring the rock back in buckets with wet newspaper should that be fine? Or will an hour drive dry be too long to leave it out. I am leaving now but I will check back here when I get home before I put it in so any suggestions would be great!

Totally wet is preferable over in wet paper, but most likely will not be a problem.

Alright I brought the rock back submerged in water from the other person's tank. With everyone's advice I put it straight in my tank. My koran angel is now acting strange and almost laying on his side. I realize me putting my arm in the water and moving stuff around could stress the fish out but my other fish are acting normal. Is this just stress or could it be something from the rocks? Ammonia maybe? I did a test and all the results came out clean but ammonia may be a little above 0.
