Hey all. I am 26 years old and I have had aquariums all my life. Everything from gars, piranhas, a brackish puffer tank (not very successful). I raised an Oscar til he was 3, but now my brother has him because I couldn't house him. He is in a 175 gal tank and weighs 5+ pounds!!! I currently have a baby Mississippi Map turtle in a 30 gal long...

...So anyway, I was in a gas station (of all places) yesterday and the owner had a really cool 14 gal Oceanic tank. It had a bit of reddish algae growth, but besides that, the water clarity, fish, and coral coloration all seemed very good.

For the Oceanic 14, all the coral, fish, crabs, coral food, etc is $150.

Does that sound like a good deal??

    Thanks

Can you be more specific on the whole deal. What I mean by that is, what kind of corals, fish, filter system, does it have a protein skimmer, lighting. What about a stand? Also, how old is the tank?

I wish I knew more. The tank is 3 years old. I believe he said the rock was from Fiji. It is a wet-dry filter built-in to the tank. The lighting has 3 settings - day, dusk, and lunar. The fish (3)were all smaller reef fish. There was also a white starfish and a crab.

There is no stand which is fine because it is a small table-top cube.

Would you think $150 is good?

So far it doesn't sound like too good of a deal. I don't know what people are thinking trying to get what tey paid for the tank. You can find better deals on everything from tanks to live rock on craigslist or ebay. We still don't know what type of fish they are which means they could just be a few cheap damsels. I still haven't heard what sort of corals are supposed to be in there. I find it kinda funny that people who claim to have corals actually only have the skeleton. What are they trying to pull?

There once was a day when we paid a high price for those "skeletons". That's all we had before the onset of live rock & reef tanks.

I agree with flashing the 100 dollar bill idea. Try that and then go from there...
