Hi, i finally decided to try some coral. My tank is 7 months old, 120 gallon, 7 t5 bulbs brand new.

I started with a mushroom its doing great i bought a zoa it open half way sometime but i think i have nudi.2 weeks later i went and bought a green star polyps my question is does your coral open when your first set of light comes on or when the light are all on.

Mine start opening when the blue comes on and is at its best when all the lights are on and start closing when daylights go off.

Is it how its suppose to be?

I put the star polyps high in the tank in medium flow should i lower him down?

zoa could just be aclimating. when i put my first coral in my tank it would take a while to open up but now it opens up right away when the lights come on

They’ll open up all day long once they’re acclimated to your tank. Those corals are really hardy and should do very well with your lighting. My Star Polyps are in an area of higher lighting and seem to love it. If they look like they’re getting blasted by flow you could move them to a slower spot. Mine are a huge patch now and look like they are flowing in slow motion when open. It’s pretty cool.

Pretty normal from my experience, some will stay open most of the time when completely acclimated to your tank. Seems to take a month or two for that to happen.

My experience was that once corals acclimatise they tend to get into their own routine
which does to some extent reflect the lighting period , but if your on manual light switches on the odd days in the year that you dont switch lights on at your normal time, the corals will in general act as if they had been

GSP - I have had several colonies and my experience has been duration and timing of polyp extension varies between colonies
I have had some that to me seemed to always be open - open before lights on and open long after lights off , and yet other colonies that seemed to close an hour or 2 after lights off and open again gradually after lights come on the next day

I have had corals that have been in my tank for 2 years not open for 2-5 days for no reason....then a week later they are fine...totally normal IMO
