Just wondering what others experiences are with return/exchanging Livestock.

Im not really interested in stories of people really getting hooked up cause they spend their entire days at the store or work there.

But more wondering because, i've been to stores that are like sure bring anything and well give you store credit,. Then i've been to stores that are like, get the heck out of here! lol.

Not like I go all over town trying to return livestock, but I tend to ask about return policy on alot of things before I make an investment and found it curious the differences in store policies.

Every once in awhile i'll get a crab or something that is a little too over agressive, and I dont want to kill it or flush it, so I ask about changing it out, or returning it.

My LFS doesn't accept returns on livestock, period. It's far too much of a risk for them. The animal is out of their care when you leave the store. They don't know the conditions it was subjected to once it left the store. Their margin is already low as heck on livestock, as well, so they can't really absorb the costs of replacements.

I have one that will accept returns but seriously marked down and another that will replace dead livestock if was purchased less then 48hrs ago and only if you bring in the dead specimen. For corals, I usually call ahead and if they have a lot of what I'm trying to trade, they just tell me flat out no.

My store will gladly take them back and issue very small credit $3..$5 dependingon the item.

I am just glad critters have somewhere to go to if they do not work out in my tank.

I returned a fish on Saturday that was in my tank for about 7 weeks. He was healthy but had acquired a taste for coral. They took him back and offered me $5 off anything I bought that day. It was only a $20 fish, so I was okay with that. I figure I rented him for just over $2 per week.

mine will take just about any livestock for half of what they can sell it for. i have never tried to return anything but assume the same goes for those items as well.

My LFS (not really local) doesnt accept returns from me cause of the distance away I live (about an hour & a half), for normal local customers they do with a big price cut in the return. On the good side the manager offers me a military discount if he is there in person.

Many stores don't offer credit on dead fish once they leave the store either since there are so many variables that can cause a fish to die.

Nope, no returns around here. I think one lfs does have a 3 day guarantee though, but no returns.
