I wouldnt really say his corals are bleached, alot of them have nice atleast decent color, that i dont think you can see so much from the p ictures? maybe the brightness of the camera?? Could also be his lights, know he uses Coralife, not to sure on bulbs wise though.. or when the last time he changed them though..

do you know what spectrum the halides are?
looks like hes running 10k halides only.
i say if he runs 14k plus some t5 actinics you will notice a big color shift in the corals that you cant really see right now because of the lights.

IMO, I disagree with you, does that make me right? You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to think your opinion is right.
The tank is obviously flourishing, but some of the corals that aren't showing bright colors can be for a number of reasons, one of them reasons being low nitrates.

    edit: meant to quote carlos.

The good news is that with some effort he can make that tank look outstanding.

The bad news is he is probably not willing to do what it takes to make it look outstanding.

I think they are only 10k, I have 20K+ on mine, and you can tell a huge difference, that mine comes out very blue, compared to his where its more of just a white light. When his night LEDs come on though, colors pop

More then likely hes not willing to do to what it takes. Hes always told me to bring over my test kits one day, just because hes curious on what they really would read.

He just says, the ocean takes care of itself, it will go through different phases and cycles, some worse than others, but in the end it will stabilize itself.

I agree the tank looks good and yes it's probably very stable, but yet i also agree that a little tlc would make that an awesome tank.Is he using ro/di or tap water?

My husband and I kept many tanks and did not perform water changes. It can be done if you set the tank up right. We ran nitrate coils, tons of carbon, a refugium, kalk reactor and a powerful skimmer on our tanks.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It's an attractive tank, perhaps not my ideal of a beautiful tank or stunning tank and it does not have to be. Lighting changes would surely help, but might shock some of the corals pretty badly initially.

The idea that one can compare the ocean to a box of SW though seems pretty far fetched. They are not even close.

Corals/fish/inverts utilize trace and major elements, if you are not going to replace them then something is lacking.

I would be interested to see specifically what his parameters look like. Corals and fish can adapt to conditions that are chronic or long term in a system and those condition are probably not ideal.

Beauty is in the eye....If he like his tank great. To apply his husbandry technique to the hobby in general is very debatable.
