So I have a 13week old Rhodesian ridgeback with a 12 week old kitten. My pup will start off licking the kitten then after about 5 minutes she will start nibbling on the kittens leg and then will start biting her back I immediately stop the dog and pick the cat up and tell my pup no. Do any of you have tips on how you socialize your kitten and pup or am I just doomed to have to constantly supervise. Oyeah my kitten Sits there and doesn't seem to mind but I read that it's because it's too scared to move. (keep in mind I'm the one ho e with the animals the most it's my girlfriends cat and my dog, and I never owned a cat and she never owned a dog)

The best thing is to keep them seperated for a bit! Keep the cat in a bedroom where the dog can still smell it! Then slowly "acclimate" them to eachother! But ya have to remember, you have a puppy, and one that is known to be really smart and really stubborn! I train rescue/foster dogs for a few agency's! But the general rule of thumb with a puppy is, if its front of its mouth, its going to get chewed! Give the cat a little space for now, but in a month or so, i'd expect to hear the dog yip, and come running around the corner with a nice scratch mark across his face, and the cat following! That should settle it!;)

Well we put those caps on the cats claws, instead of declawing it, we got the cat a giant scratching post were he likes to lay in the hammock on top were the dog can't get him. Yeah I tried to explained tovmy gf that she being almost 4 months she's like a 2 year old and ridgebacks have a ton of energy So she's going to want to play.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I believe you will have to supervise them until the cat/kitten can let you know it's not liking the dogs attention.

Sounds like normal play to me, but I would not leave them alone together. I pretty sure if the kitten were in distress it would let you know. Once the kitten gets older it will be able to avoid the dog when it wants to.

Boy you guys will have your hands full of fun for awhile.

Yeah so the puppy nibbling isn't something to worry about, because I tell her it's normal for dogs to do that to each other but I never had a kitten and she's never had a dog so we don't really know how they should interact

In a month or so the cat's gonna be big enough it won't be an issue anymore! Until then, I'd watch! But yeah that's how puppies play, they bite the heck outta eachother! It's dominance training for when they're older! But a kitten that size can't take it! But kittens age quicker than dogs! By the time its 6 months old you'll be worrying about the dog and not the cat! Cool dog BTW, but I'd either get a trainer, or read up on training them! They're work dogs, and like to work, need alot of exercise!

BTW, I think declawing is mean and inhumane! Those claw covers get pricy and annoying, but are a much better option! I have a big tree stump i put in the corner and rub catnip on! Also, look into the card board cat scratchers! My cat tears those up, and not my furniture!

I've owned ridgebacks before just not with cats, yeah I usually take her for 2 mile jogs a day so I'm not worried about that
