ok cool! Love the breed, but they do need an active owner! Sounds great! Can't say I know much about them with cats other than my friend had the combo in college, and he pestered the cats for a bit, then the cat got him, and no worries after that! I'd just say watch them and work with him! reward him when he's good around the cat, and out him in time out when he's not!

Is this a female dog???:confused:Just realised you were referring to it as a her. I have seen this behavior before. The dog is not trying to hurt the cat. Its just a maturnal instinct for the dog to want to pick the cat up by the back of the neck. A friends dog did this with his kitten. It would pick it up and hide it behind the couch and protect it. Apparently the dog just thinks the cat is actually a puppy.lol It was scary at first but he assured me the dog would never hurt the cat. They were best buddies for years. Not positive this is what you are witnessing but its possible. Good luck hope it works out for you and your furry friends.

If you catch the cat clawing on anything other than the post/cat tree, squirt it with water from a squirt bottle. I only had 2 cats in my life (out of 7) that clawed furniture, and it was always just one chosen area of one piece of furniture. One we got when I was 1 (I wasn't training cats then LOL) and the other was a stubborn Siamese mix that liked to claw one corner of my old couch (along with the cat tree and the cardboard things, he loved those). A little clear tape over the couch corner cured that. One of the cats I trained with the squirt bottle and snapping my fingers. After a while, any time you snapped your fingers she'd talk back but quit what she was doing.

As others said, keep an eye on the puppy & kitten when they're together until they get a bit older. The cat I have now was brought into my house tiny with 2 cats and 2 80 lb dogs. Within 3 weeks, she was terrorizing the poor pups LOL.
