    Hey All,

I'm wondering if anyone has a dog(s) that has food allergies, and if so, what you do to control the allergies and what food you feed your dog(s).

My dog is having bad food allergies (I think). She licks herself a lot, sheds a lot, has a bald spot on her stomach and has sensitive skin. A little less than a year ago this all started when she began having a reaction to her food. At that time her reaction was intestinal. She was put on medication and I switched foods. She was doing a lot better until a couple weeks ago, when the skin issues started. I'm assuming it's food related, but I'm not sure, because it's different than last time.

The vet said that with allergies sometimes the dog needs to be fed different food every few months or so. I'm dreading this, since last time it took trying about 10 different types of food until I found one she could eat. I'm not sure how much more food is out there to try!

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with dog food allergies, please lend some expertise! Thank you!!

I no longer have a dog but when I did all my Dog's I have ever owned ate Science Diet from the Vet's office. I have never found a better food for a pooch. Little higher in price but more than worth it.

I used venison meal and whole brown rice by nutro for Oscar my pug that had that
Natural Choice Dog Dry Adult Venison Meal & Whole Brown Rice Formula
It did improve his allergies (He had stomach and skin problems) The last couple months of his life I did feed him a raw diet Nature's Variety: Raw Frozen Diets for dogs and cats: Learn about Raw | Nature's Variety they absolutely loved. It was designed for dogs with severe allergies but I used it because he had major throat surgery and needed something softer and cold for his throat. He was unable to eat kibble. I got this from a natural holistic dog store (SHEESH!) It is very expensive comparatively but.....

    good luck

A little apple cider vinegar did wonders for my dogs. As far as brand of dog food you will have to experiment till you find what works for your dog. Science diet worked for my Am. Staff buy not my Bulldog and Pro Plan works for the Bulldog but the Am. Staff cant stomach the stuff. Good luck.

I have papillions. They are notorious for sensitive stomachs. One is allergic to wheat and the other just can't handle some of the by-products. I found Natural Balance, you can get it at Petco. Google it. Comes is 3 different flavors, so I can switch every now and then when I need to.

Before we found out what she was allergic to, we tried everything - Science Diet, IAMS, etc., this was the ONLY thing that didnt cause her to have intestinal issues.

We have Pugs, and some do have a sensitivity to Wheat which is used in many of the dog foods. We have found that the Costco, Kirkland Brand Lamb & Rice, is inexpensive, high in meat, and does not trigger the sensitivity in our pugs.
