Whoa whoa whoa whoa...bulldogs are cute?? That's what I thought you said...

Gah I'm kicking myself for forgetting who this is, but someone on here has a shiba inu. It's the smallest japanese dog breed, and they only get abot 20 pounds.

That's what they look like. Except I think that one is still a puppy in the pic, but almost adult. I'd research those guys if interested.

Yeah, not a very good idea. These dogs are never liek the one on "frazier" like a lot of people still think.

I would say for a dog that size, a cavalier king charles spaniel, dachsund, pug, basenji (barkless dog), or cocker spaniel ( get an english one unless you can be sure the bloodlines are not all messed up like most of the American cockers are).

Those are some options off the top of my head.

Boston terrier, corgi, french bulldog, schnauzer. Pretty much all the fluff ball dogs too.

Shiba Inus are actually one of the 7 sizes of breeds that are all inter related with the largest being the Akita.

These dogs are interesting, but many have very bad dispositions. I have met a few in person, and they look like a fox, The picture of that one is probably an adult. Very cute, but their demeanor isn't as sweet as they look.

whatever dog you want to get, research a LOT about it before you commit.

The akc link above can be looked at for all the other AKC breeds as well.

Aren't they a dog that was bred to protect a home? If so, I would imagine they're not always awesome to be around, despite their looks coming right out of an anime.

We have a toy chihuahua manchester terrier mix. He is a cute little guy. He was really mean for a year or two but has leveled out and doesnt bark much or bite at all anymore. He only weighs eight pounds. So a breed like that would fit well in a condo that size.

Those shibas are a very nice looking dog. I will do some through research before I make any kind of decision. Giving the dog attention will not be a problem. I love dogs and always have. My only problem is being in a condo, I want to give the dog as much outside time as possible. The weekends will be easy. My parents have about 2acres and still have an electric fence. He/she would have some good leg room their.

Yes, they were bred to be guard dogs. That's where they get the 'tude from.

Ugghhh. I completely disagree with this statement.

Back in the "olden days" when I was in high school I went door to door for a construction company. (I.e. gutters, siding, soffit, fascia, thermal windows, etc.) As a result, I've been bitten many times. Here's some of the dogs that have NEVER bitten me. German Shepard, Rottweiler, Pit Bull, Akita, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, great danes, mutts. Wanna know what breed is responsible for 50% of the bites? Worthless piece of crap cocker spaniels. The other 50% was spread between Chihuahua's and little rat dogs where the owner would say, "Oh, he won't bite you".....and then CHOMP! If I see a loose pit bull, I don't worry about it. However, if I see a cocker spaniel, I cross to the other side of the street.

Actually you were agreeing completely with me, but you didn't realize my point. Maybe you were not aware of the differences between an English and an American Cocker?

The reason why cocker spaniels are responsible for the high percentage of dog bites is an American cocker spaniel. The english is a completely different breed and is a hunting dog, pretty much almost indistinguishable from an english springer spaniel.

The american cocker was derived from the english, and bred to be big and not a hunting dog. As such, they got heavy and a nasty demeanor bred into a small line of dags. Small gene pool added to a bad habit only proliferates the bad issues.

I apologize to any american cocker spaniel owner that has an exception to this.

I too have been bit by an American Cocker spaniel, but not by any other dog. I am always around dogs, and will always ask to pet other people's dogs, so if the only dog that has bitten me is an American Cocker, then there is something to it.

This same cocker bit all 3 of it's owners , and a close friend of one of the owners. Actually 2 close friends because I knew this dog for quite a while before it bit me.

I won't include puppies in my dog bite total because there isn't any malevolence involved.
