I was getting ready to do a big water change so I had 20 gallons sitting in a bucket uncovered. When my roommate tossed a dog toy and the corner of the toy landed in the bucket. It definitely is not a clean toy so is the water now garbage? Or can it still be used, only a corner of the toy touched in for a second?

It's a toss up IMO. I have a rubbermaid container with water and have had bugs get into it and the pitcher I use sits around my basement, no harm. I don't really see any major issues, but if it makes you feel better, dump it and start anew.

yeah it took me a day and a half to create that much water so it'd be a pain to do that again I was hoping it may not have been that big a deal

use it. my sump is in my garage and I get bugs that land in my water and die all the time. Never seen any ill effects from that.
