Reactor is the most efficient, but you could build your own. Pretty much anything that will keep the GAC contained and to which you can attach a low-flow pump (80 - 100gph) can be used. You could also DIY a manifold for the outlet on your skimmer or GFO reactor in which to run carbon.

I'll just buy a reactor from brs when my tax return hits. Also how much gfo should be use I read some where like 1 teaspoon per 20 gallons and long should it last. Also when I test to see when its depleted should I test once a week or twice a week?

It may depend on the brand and should be on the label.

For an established system, you'll want to start with roughly 1/4 the recommended amount, then add another 1/4 every couple weeks until you reach the target. Lots of folks have had serious issues (including bleached or dead corals) with starting up with the full amount.

Just an idea, but could you put the GFO and the Carbon in different media bags in the reactor its-self? That way you could just pull out the carbon bag and replace it?

It would work about as good as having the bags in the sump, which is ok, but it would defeat the purpose of having a reactor. GFO works best if it's loose and allowed to tumble gently. In a bag, it won't be as efficient, and it won't last as long as it will tend to clump.
