Should I do it? Someone I know is giving a decent size one away if I want it to start my cycle up. I am pretty confident I will be doing a fowlr with a Niger, Lion, Puffer and maybe some other semi aggressive guys... my worry is if I don't want that domino I will never catch him with 100 lbs of rock. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't do it. It's just not worth risking the long term happiness of your tank for. Throw some food in and let it nasty the old fashioned way.

There's absolutely no point in adding a fish cycle. It's the food you add that's starting things up, not the fish.

Also, lions aren't aggressive at all. They are peaceful, and pretty much defenseless, to anything they can't swallow. Your lion might get torn apart by the puffer and trigger.

    1) Never use a live fish to cycle your tank. There are plenty of other methods available.

    2) Never add a damsel as your first fish, regardless what else you plan to keep (unless they're all damsels).

Thanks guys. I didn't originally plan to use a fish. My last reef tank I used a dead shrimp that rotted and stunk! But worked.
I guess I will have to tell her I won't be taking the Domino

I've seen a domino damsel rule over a tank and I was suprised at how big they get. The dog face puffer was getting bullied and eventually died from it. Your making the right choice. If you want to try something different for a cycle look up dr tims fish less cycle. Might be something you'll like

It's free for a reason... Keep that bugger out of your tank!

I agree with everybody - dominos can be soooo aggressive - not worth it
