I'm lookin into buying a trio of Domino Damselfish for my 65g tank. They are very young now about the size of a nickel and i understand they do get mean when they are older but do you think they'd mix well with a coral beauty, maroon gold stripe clown and a leopard wrasse? The coral beauty is full grown so i'm not really worried about him and the maroon clown is about 4 inchs but i belive his temperment would go good with the damsels, hes been getting along great with the coral beauty and the wrasse. My main concern is the leopard wrasse, shes just a baby about 2 inchs in size but she'd be growing with the damsels. Would they bother the wrasse? is it better to get the damsels in a group so they hang out together?

Yep all damsels do eventually get very aggressive. A trio may be too much, they will most likely harass the others. One would be fine though. But do provide plenty of rock work and sufficient feedings.

Hmmm so one is better then a group. Well heres my real question then is there any fish on the smaller side i can keep in a small school (3 to 4)? I know Green Chromis are good but one of the LFS near me never stocks them and the other LFS rarely stocks them and if they do have them half of them are DOA and the rest die off in a few days. Any suggestions?

green chromis are a deep water fish and are not really the strongest fish around. Someone that worked at a fish store told me that they would order 50 of them so they could have 20 or so. It depends on how the fish is collected...and most of the time they just break the air bubble so they can pull it up fast.

Schooling fish.....I have a small school of lemon drop cardinals. Pajama cardinals will school (might even hang out with your clown) I love the bangaii cardinals buy MAKE SURE THEY ARE EATING..another weak fish.

65g elilminates anthias, but again deep water fish usually with poor survivial.

One thing to remember though...schooling fish often times only school when they feel threatened. My 3 lemon drop cardinals do not school. 2 of them hang out together sometime, adn the 3rd one is off with my clowns.

But your marroon clown and your coral beauty should do enough to torment them to school together

If the chromis survived the transition to the LFS and is eating well is it safe to assume i wont have major problems? I checked my LFS last night and they have a batch of 20 they just got two days ago and so far so good their eating and they havent lost a single one.

I really like cardinals for schooling. They tend to need some space above the rockwork but they kind of hang out together swimming around.

Its between the Green Chromis and the Pajama Cardinals (i've never seen a hawaiian chromis at my LFS) I love the Pajamas but at $19.99 a pop the Green Chromis are looking better, there only $7.99 (i'm on a tight budget) But it would appear it would be better to save up for a trio of Pajamas cause they seem to do better then the chromis. Are the Hawaiians any hardier than the Greens?

Please take my advice, do not put them into your tank! You will never be able to catch them so the only way to get them out would be to get a bigger tank. Also my domino has killed 4 fish costing me over $200. Now don't get me wrong if this is your dream fish then go right ahead but I think you will regret this particular $8 fish. Buy something you can enjoy. How about some karma, you will thank me later!

Wow. $20 for a Pajama Cardinal. All of a sudden I feel lucky. They are $10 here all day long and Green Chromis are $4. My Pajama is doing great with no probs. Leaves other fish alone and stays where I can see him for the most part. Same with my Green Chromis. Never had to catch him so cannot speak for that.;D
