    Hey guys,
Well I recently got accepted to work at my lfs. I have never had a “real” job before and I don’t really know what to expect. Has anyone here ever worked at their lfs, if so what did you do? If anyone has any tips please share them, they would be greatly appreciated.

Ask lots of questions. One thing about this hobby is that there are alot of way to do things, everybody has their own nitch. Best plan when working for someone else is to learn the way they like to do things and excel at those tasks.

Biggest tip for you is make sure to work on shipment days to keep all the best stuff for you!

    Congrats!
One thing I wish more lfs employees would do is if you don't know the answer to a question don't make up a answer. People will respect that more than finding out the real info later.
Learn learn learn, you will be in a great enviorment to learn about a lot of different things. Soak it up like a sponge (pun intended) lol

I worked at a lfs once, best job ever!! I would go in even if I was off on shipment days to see what we got in and lay claim to what I wanted. Had a good time redoing all the setups too

+ to all the advice above!! Be a good worker and learn as much a you can! What a great first job to get! Congrats on that. Access to new incoming livestock is definitely a plus. I really liked the advice about not making up answers when you really don't know, get the right answer and then give to the customer. Your boss and customers will respect that plus you learn as well! Since this is your first job, consider being on time at least getting there 5-10 minutes early. Offer to do extra things and do a good job with what you take on. Try to notice things that need done ahead of time and do them - especially the yucky jobs that your boss probably hates to do and is counting on you to do :)......just some advice I can think of.

Understand that you made an agreement with your employer. You told them you would work certain hours for certain money. That is the deal. Hold up your end. Stay busy and help your employer make money by doing all the things cited above, and all the things you think need doing. Do more than is expected.

In return your employer will become dependent on you and will pay you more and give you more responsibility. Then work harder and the cycle will continue. An employer is unlikely to let someone get away, or let someone go, that is making them money. You being successful in this, or anything else, is up to you. Good luck with it.

(Sorry if this sounds like a preachy dad thing, but it is what I tell my 16- and 19-yr old sons.)

Thanks guys I’m heading up there in about an hour to talk about hours and all that. Now I just need a way of explaining when I have lacrosse in the spring, its 5 days a week 3 hours a day. So when you add school in I won’t be able to work really at all then.
