Our club (NJRC) does DBTC too, but there's only really xenia, anthellia, and GSP going around, with a couple SPS like GARF bonsai. As I understand it, BAR is much better about what they have and are trading, as they're more generous with their rarer corals.

Before everyone jumps at this there is some thought that needs put into this before it is launched at the 3reef level.

    First does 3reef approve?

Most of these programs revolve around the 'give to get' general idea. Who would be in charge and who is balancing the books to make sure people are spreading the wealth and not just being frag hoarders.

Would there be a point system and would the point system involve benefits for donating and sharing more rare or slow growing corals? Should a xenia/gsp get the same amount of points as a SPS or favia that take months to grow to frag worth sharing size?

Next up is it economically worth doing online/ cross country level? For that $25 or 30 it would cost S&H on 1 frag to share you can use that same $25-30 locally on the same frag? or that $25 or 30 is a good start to a big order from like 10dollarfrags.com or some of the other frag sellers.

I'm not saying it isnt a good idea, I'm just saying give it some more indepth thought prior to jumping in.

I am a member of a shooting forum and they have someone that updates the first page as an inventory of the items available.

this is cool, i may be interested on participating.. I do have one question though..

what if you dont really have any coral at the beggining? could you still get some from the organization grow it and give back frags without offering at first?

Yes, that's the idea. You just have to agree to the rules about giving frags out to others once they have grown out enough.

My club in Colorado has a strong DBTC program. I have a new found love for this hobby due to the members of MASC. I am a full time college student and it is hard to spend money on corals as they can be so expensive. But when I do have a little extra cash I try to buy something nice so that I can in turn give away a frag to a fellow reefer. And it amazing as this has bought the club in my mind closer together. Give it a try if you guys have not done it before, you might end up loving it. And some of you might end up with some sweet new corals in your tank in the mean time.
