As a seller, I hate sniping on a 0 bid item. I generally start the auction at a loss hoping for some bids. And while I am not saying that behavior is wrong, it is the sole reason I stick on a "handling" fee to cover box and packaging.

Also, as a seller, eBay's "calculated shipping" is evil. I always add a few pounds of air as it always undercalculates shipping costs leaving me to make up the difference. That's bs. So I increase the weight.

You pair those two things together and eBay is a losing model.

The last thing that I detest about eBay is that it isn't "persons" anymore but "businesses". Which, I guess, is fine but eBay lost its way there years ago. I'm competing with people that have three billion ratings and a zillion copies of what I try to sell and they're taking up all the space... unless I pay extra to get at top of list - another practice I disagree with.

The number 1 thing I hate about ebay is that they own paypal and charge the seller double. You have to pay a % of what the item sold for then you have to pay paypal a % of the money the buyer sends you. They get away with it by calling the two charges different names.

You can offer the 2nd place guy a 2nd chance as well as cancel the transaction.
