Have some questions as I am beginning this. I am planning to set this up Sunday. It's a RR 90G.

I don't have any plumbing so if you guys could be gracious enough to piece it out, (what I will need) that would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on getting either a 29L or 38 for a sump. I am thinking about hanging a CPR HOB refugium that I already have on the sump. Do you think that would work ok? I also may not be sectioning off the sump with baffles because of the HOB. Would that be ok too? I'll just throw a big ole skimmer on it.

Should I place the LR directly on the glass or disperse the weight with eggcrate, and place the LR upon that?

    Thanks in advance

Congratulations on the new tank :)
I have seen it done both ways, I put mine directly on the glass. then put sand. As far as the sump goes I personelly would section it off with a baffle plate so when you do put a skimmer in there it will help with micro bubbles. I would also make the sump as big as possible....you never know what you might want to put in it later on. JMO

What I would do is section off the sump and just have a section for the refugium. That's how I run mine. It should allow you more room for algae growth. The HOB refugium will just be another piece of equipment you need or one that can break.

As for the LR, I placed mine just on the glass, some people use eggcrate. What I don't like about it is that it creates dead spaces that won't be moved with can eventually lead to hydrogen sulfide building up.

Getting the return pump tomorrow morning. I'm between a Mag 9.5 and a 12. What do you guys think?

If at all possible, try to get a Eheim 1260 or 1262, they are way quieter, and don't heat the water as much as the Mags do. If you are set on the Mag, then I'd say a Mag9.5 return is good enough for a return pump. You want to have low flow through your sump so that your skimmer can clean the water effectively. Then use a powerhead in your fuge to tumble your Macro.

OK. After searching high and low, I found a sump tank (was thinking about a 29L or a 30 of some sort) then I found a 38. It was perfect, then as I was walking out, something caught my eye and I set it down. What I found next was a 45G (36x24x12) on clearance ($100) and brought it home!

It fit perfectly in my stand, I will probably need to slide it out though when I find the right skimmer. I am in the process of obtaining a ASM G1X, will slide that into the sump.

So after draining the 55, capturing the fish and placing them into a 30G tub with a heater, powerhead and airstone...I have this:

A tank of really happy fish taken quite nicely to their new digs!
