My blue hippo tang died last night. She had something going on that looked like ich and other times like fungus and fin rot. I tried garlic and let her immune system fight it because she was eating and growing. It never spread to any other fish in the tank so I don't think I need to worry. I'm moving the tank tomorrow since me and my girl broke up. Any suggestions on a preventative while I have the tank down for a few hours?

Sorry about the hippo. Maybe your ex poisoned it?? It could have been ich, particularly if the fish was stressed. How big is the tank? Perhaps that was an issue. Tangs are very prone to ich. Anyway, when i moved my tank, i put everything in large buckets and trash cans. I replaced all of my sand also. Stirring up old sand can be an issue so i figured i would just replace since i had to take the thing down anyway. I saved a few scoops of the old sand to reseed the new and everything worked out ok. Just make a good plan before you start. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I wouldn't be suprised, she gets pretty crazy lol. I was wondering if I should replace my sand bed. I have a bunch of new live sand so replacing it won't be a problem. It a 36 gallon bowfront btw. Thanks for the help man.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Hippo tangs need to go in much bigger tanks, in that small of a tank you are just asking for problems.

If you still have that Dotty Back and Maroon Clown you need to consider room enough for all to have their territories. It's a recipe for disaster with those fish types in a 36 gallon tank with more passive fish.

I would recommend replacing the sand just because I just did that and it made for a great overall improvement. Also, I've read where ich can fall off the fish and then end up staying in the tank so another reason to replace the sand bed...

Sounds like a plan. I'll keep a little to seed the new live sand I bought. I'm in the process of breaking it down so wish me luck.
