I have a question on dosing and skimmers.
When do you or do you , need to turn off your skimmer when adding additives?

Whether it is buffer, calcium additives, P4 reducers or whatever.

Are there certain things that the skimmers will remove as you add them and waster time and $$

Right now I am using, Garlic and VitaChem with food, Multiple Phosphate reducers, Seachem Buffer 8.3, Purpleup, all at different times for different reasons. Do any of these get removed from the skimmer ? Should I shut if off while dosing?

    \Cheers

I don't shut anything off. The skimmer may remove some of the supplements but not enough to warrant turning it off when dosing.

I ask again cause it seemes that everytime I add anything, is when I see the skimmer doing its work. Extra bubbles for an hour, and extra skim in the cub. The only time I see my skimmer, well, skimming, is when I add stuff.

This is a topic that gets ALOT of opinions and stares. I, for one, dont really know what the answer is, I've heard so many conflicting opinions and statements. I know that I dont turn it off for anything, except to clean the pump. I have tought about this many times as I add different supplements. I wonder what the truth is?

Have you noticed everytime you add something they work harder as I have seen?

If so, I think the answer is apparent. I wonder...

I may start shutting mine down for an hour or so... I hate to add something like vitamines or something just to have it cleaned out

I know how you feel, feels like your just throwing your money into the tiolet. Some ppl have their skimmers on timers and dose when it is off. I have never done that.
