A few days ago I purchased a Strawberry (Magenta) Dottyback thinking it was an Orchid (I should have looked at the eyes a little closer), this thing is a little terror. It is terrorizing everything from my clowns to inverts. If it's this brave now, I can only imagine what it will be like once it's been there a while. Anyway, I need to catch the thing and take it back to the LFS. It's lightning fast and I don't think I am going to have any luck with a net, anyone have any suggestions on how to catch it short of removing all the LR from my tank?

Make or purchase a fish trap or bait a tiny hook and go fishing :)

+1. That's the only way I have ever gotten anything out without tearing out rock. I have tried at least 4 different traps without luck

I had one of those. He ripped my shrimp apart and then he killed my eye spot goby. Luckily it was a tiny tank so catching him wasnt a problem.

yea i had a dottyback before and he was one of the hardest fish to catch and it kept terrorizing smaller fish i tried to put into the tank and ended up killing my six line wrasse so I got fed up one day I was gonna catch him if it was the last thing i did. I did have to tear down some rock but luckily he was dumb enough to go into a rock that i could pull out of the tank and shake it a lil and he fell out & i took him into the LFS that day....i will never have one of those again...instead i got a royal gramma =)

I have an ORA indigo dottyback that kills shrimp, and wrasses. He has gone through at least 100 dollars of livestock. probably more like 150 + actually.

These are supposed to be nice dottybacks, but not mine.

I have tried all sorts of traps, but none have worked. I might try a small barbless hook, and hopefully not catch any other fish.

I HATE my dottyback. And that stupid thing is my 3 year olds favorite fish in the tank. I'm going to catch that thing and send it back to the LFS

I gotta tell ya, I had to laugh at this one. Because I did the saaaaame thing. Thought it was an Orchid and it was a strawberry. Had to take out all my rock to get it. And they jump too. So be prepared for that. I am sooooo glad it's gone.
