I got a Dragon Goby Thursday evening and only see him at night when I walk slowly into the room. As soon as he sees me he swims away and hides under the rocks. In the daytime, I never see him at all which is where my problem comes in...

Can Dragon Goby's survive off skimming the sand only? I know Mysis shrimp can do the trick but if he hides every time I come in, how the heck am I going to feed him? I tried the turkey baster method but in some cases he buries himself in the sand to the point where I have no idea where he is at. I know he is skimming the sand at night because the tank is looking real good but I have no idea if he can live off that alone.

Could anyone give me some help?

How old is your tank? The older it is, the more there will be in the sand for him to eat.

But also, you haven't had him very long, so he may become less nervous and shy over time.

The tank is over 2 years old and he will hopefully get less and less shy but I don't want him to starve in the meantime.

I think the sand is probably established enough to feed him for awhile. Fish can go a long time without a lot of food....I have a flasher wrasse that hid in a rock for 4 weeks (just eating pods, I assume) that came out alive and is very healthy and active now. Definitely didn't think I would see that fish ever again!

He's probably still adjusting. Mine did the same thing.
