Whoever sold you a dragonet for a new system played you. Wait. Define new system? Reason being they look for pods to eat so they swim throughout the day. Unless you heavily populated your tank, your dragonet's life will become short.

dragonets buy rule should be the last fish you get in 5+ month turning tank. they are pretty hard to keep due to the fact that are "picky" feeders who tend to eat only live pray, have you asked the pet shop keeper to show you that the fish eats frozen pray? if its not trained to do so (rarely are), sadly it wont last very long.

see a fish-->write down its latin name-->research-->research-->research-->buy not the other way around

They are more active during the day but its not uncommon to see them out pod hunting at night.

My 2 are active during the day and early evening (while the actinics are on).

Also when you go to check on them in the morning and see them on the sandbed all pale and such (looking like they're dead) don't panic...unless they're floating at the top of the water "belly up" they're probably fine.
They lighten thier color to blend in better while sleeping.

+1 to not the best purchase. In a 55g one will tear up a pod population. More than one in a newish tank wont fair well unless you plan on bying pods you'll more than likely be starving them to death.

FTR, Dragonettes don't typically swim around in open water. They usually just hang around the rocks looking for pods.
