I want to run plumbing about 15ft into the garage where the sump with be located. I was thinking about running the pipe near the floor and then when it gets to the sump it will go up and over the edge. The "up and over" will be about a foot below the bottom of the tank (drain). Will this work ok? What should I know about running a vertical drain?

If I understand you right, you are planning to have your drain line raise before it dumps into your sump? If so, you don't want to do this. You want a drain line to only pitch down. Doing otherwise will slow the flow dramatically (you would need a relatively large pipe to do this), and you will create an area where all of your detritus and other "debris" will trap there. You would need to clean it basically every day, if it worked at all.

No problem, please feel free to post up what you are thinking next. Better to know something won't work before you spend all of the time and effort :)

Water doesn't run uphill very well. :p

Provided the exit height is lower than the drain opening, it work work, but it's always going to be full of water up the exit height. That'll make things noisy on the drain side, be susceptible to clogs, and cause a lot of restriction.
