    Wood is a totally organic material and with all organic's its made up of organic Carbon's like we are and as long as its you can see it its still in a state of decay.. Watch an old tree stump . Now in water it just takes longer to decompose and cold salt water prolongs the decay the most of all water types but it does still decay.. Now I bet you if you add any real wood to your aquarium the Nitrites will go off the charts and Nitrites will follow Nuff said by me about wood :) I said wood ;D
