Ferretfish I believe they are. It took me forever to identify the little hitchhiker, I identified individual characteristics of the crab and searched for those. It has all the tell-tale properties of an emerald crab, but it's red. I've found evidence on the internet of red emerald crabs, so I'm pretty sure that's what the little bugger is. He has been a great little keeper of my rock and hasn't been a problem with my corals for the most part. He did knock over the pipe organ when I first added it, and I saw him briefly pick at the GSP mat, but there was no damage to it so I think he might have been picking Dietrus off of it.

Don't see too many red emeralds at the lfs but collectors in the keys can get them. Sealifeinc.net has them for example.

I have to admit that I am a bit jealous that you can have a tank in your office. I'm sure those new privates can be a bit stressful. It's been about 6 years now since I graduated AIT as a 13B. Good Luck to you and welcome to 3reef!

Yeah, I'm pretty lucky that I have a supportive chain of command and other hobbiests in my unit.

Nice tank DS, i wish 10 years ago I had a DS that was cool enough to have a fish tank in there office lol I didnt see anyone else ask and just to cover the basis and im sure after 3 months that you tank has fully cycled but have you ran any test to check params and water quality? My first starfish I added around 3 months on my first tank he made it over a year in my tank until he started munching on my coral lol. Welcome to 3reef

    Open Coral's Pics

Here are most of my corals 3 hours after lights on. My Pipe Organ is being pouty this morning, but with good reason. I found him knocked over when i got in at 430 and the small shell he rests against askew. I imagine my crab or a snail walked over it, so I rearranged him with a bit more secure setting. I imagine he'll be fine tomorrow.

I really doubt any of my former soldiers would describe me as "cool". I'm a bit high strung, and sometimes forget that most of these kids aren't the highly tuned physical speciman I am, lol.

I actually had my water test for the first time last week. I had just set up the system and let it run for those three months, only messing with it to do water changes. When I took a sample to the store (I can't keep the test chemicals in my office was the only stipulation to having the aquarium), they said my parameters were perfect. They suggested I dose with fuel though since I was adding corals. So I did my research and dose about 1/3 of the recommended amount once every 4 days.

So what are you going to do with your aquarium when you go off the trail?

It's going to move with me to my new office. I'm not leaving this duty station for at least another year, so when they move me to my new office I'll move the tank with me.

DS, its good to here that your water is perfect bio fuel will help with the nitrates and phosphates that build up in the system. What kind of lighting are you running on your tank? It could jsut be the picture but the coral are looking like they could be bleaching(brown), but other then that everything looks good.

I only became a fine tuned physical speciman after basic now almost 11years later going strong lol 8)
