Is there a reason I should decide not to drill my 20 gallon long to make my own internal overflow? I've very much enjoyed my 90g reef tank with it's internal overflow/sump (my first tank without ehiems!) but want to have a similar setup for the tank I'm building for the bedroom. I like the idea of having the small tank showing with the room to put a 30 gallon sump underneath. Just checking to see why I have never seen anyone else do one. I'm sure it's a simple answer like the glass is to thin or tempered. Thanks for the input

If you drill it, do not drill the bottom. It is tempered on almost, if not all tanks. Which will crack. Drilling the sides is fine though. Many people drill tanks for "internal OF", but you can't drill the bottom.

I doubt it'll be tempered for a 20g. I don't know how reliable this is http://www.salt-city.org/showthread.php?t=9542 . or how it works, but give it a try before you drill just to see how it goes. Also try contacting the co. that makes the tank and ask them.

The 20 long is not tempered on the bottom. I just broke the bottom glass of one 2 days ago. Tested, not tempered.
