i have a plastic container that i want to turn into a refugium.
i dont have a 1 inch drill bit what can i use so i can fit a bulk head on to the container. also do home depot drill glass?
Will this cause a huge diatom bloom if i put this much plastic?

    Good question.
Sorry I don't have an answer because I was wondering the same thing myself. I'm going to be using a plastic container for my fuge, too. And have the fuge drain into the sump. I was going to make an outline of the bulkhead with a marker and try to cut out the hole with a dremel. I'll let you know if it works.

For plastic your best bet would be to go with the marker/dremel idea. Make sure you're measuring the outside diameter of the bulkhead and not the inside when you make your mark to cut. Lowes does glass cutting, but I'm not sure if hole drilling is involved in that. I had them cut the acrylic Plexiglas that I used for the baffles in my sump. I asked Home Depot by me and they don't cut glass or do anything worthwhile IMO.

I did the glass drilling on my aquarium myself, it was much easier than I thought it was going to be.

I actually used a small plexiglass piece that I cut a hole in, siliconed to the spot where I wanted to drill with a bit of silicone around the edges (small enough to get a razor under) to use as a guide and water repository. Filled the hole with water and let fly.

I found a diamond coated drill bit on the intertubes for about 16 bucks maybe? I know if you look you can find them for really cheap. Some sites charge like 50-60 bucks for them, look elsewhere.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Plastic is easy to drill. You can drill it with a spade/paddle/butterfly whatever you want to call it bit. Will be about $5-6 bucks. Why do you want to drill it though? Can't you run the pipe out the top?

Also I doubt home depot is going to be doing any glass drilling. They sell and cut glass for windows, so they wouldn't have a reason to offer glass drilling to 99.99% of their customers.

Glass-Holes.com dope aquarium stuff has glass hole saws for $13. That is were I got mine and I would order from them again. They were really helpful when I was drilling my mantis tank.

im not sure how to plumb it from the top.
so from my 60 gallon tank it will go down the overflow and T off. one into the sump and one into the fuge. if i drilled the hole into the plastic container then it will gravity fed into the sump
