ok so i just finished phase 1 of bleaching my live rock. as i was removing the rock from the bleach mixture to rinse it i noticed that some of the rock would gurgle as water ran out of the crevices. some of my larger pieces that i bought as base rock wouldnt gurgle as if they were completely solid, which brings me to the purpose of starting this thread. i was thinking of drilling my rock to make it more porous, but before i do so i would like some input from others with more knowledge of this than myself. i have read about people drilling their live rock for plugs but cant find anything about drilling to make the rock more porous. any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated (i.e. what size drill bit to use, how many holes, spacing, depth, and how to make it look natural...)

Its a lot of trouble and mess to achieve little if any advantages , I have used porous and rocks that look like bricks makes no difference in the systems health . I'd not do it you tell me what you think the advantages would be ? I don't think there would be any at all other then holes for more waste to build up in .. The water will find holes to get inside the rock to build up some anaerobic bacterias . Limestone is always porous and will have water inside.. maybe someone more advanced them me will chime in and help you with a answer ? I'd say just let it be and use it the way it is.

thanks for the reply, maybe i will just use the rock as it is. it seems that some of my more porous rock does have alot of brownish water rinsing out of it since i have bleached it. i rinsed it for a good while and when i put it in freshwater to soak it still made the water murky.
