Can any one give me info on drop in chillers. I am thinking of buying a tradewind 1/3 hp drop in chiller and droping it into my refugium. They seem easy to set up and reliable.

My office LFS guy was talking about one for my office 210. It was getting up to 82-83 over the summer. I'm back down to 78-80 since the fall. He claims they are pretty idiot proof and work well. I may add one next year. If you get one, post up. :)

I use an inline chiller on my 150. I guess the benefit to a drop-in would be to not have to pump through your chiller. Possibly having an extra pump for added electrical demand. A drawback would be if your sump-fuge is in the same room as the display. Is placement a concern? Remember that the chiller will be pulling out the heat of the system and adding it to the room it's in. Ok in the winter but hot in the summer. Just a thought.

wouldnt that be the same no matter what chiller you have inline or drop in?

Is there a certain chiller i can get that wont heat up the living room.

I am in florida so it pretty much stays warm all year around.

    Reefer,
The benefit to an inline is you could plumb it to an area away from the display. Maybe the basement or the garage? Even outside? Any chiller will add heat to the room it's in. If you have central air conditioning then it will help keep room temp constant.

    got it i understand 100%.
i just always seen pics of tanks with the chiller right next to it. I never even thought of that. It would be way to hard to relocate the chiller to a diffrent room or area of the house

But i do have central AC so i think the best bet for me would be the drop in. Also if the chiller doesnt work that hard on chilling then it wont disperse that much heat right?
I got a deep 150gal tank i think 30' , so i would think the water would take a while to heat up.
I have a dual 400 watt 15k lighting set up
