I have a 46 gallon bow reef set up and am switching it to a 72 bow. The problem is it will need to be put into a different room and possibly my drum room. Does anyone know if the vibrations from the drums of stereo could stress a fish or possibly injure them?

I had the same situation. I had my 29 gallon tank in my bed room, where my kit was set up. I didn't notice any real stress, but I would keep all of my windows open to disperse the sound a bit (neighbors weren't too happy about that, but oh well). I'm not sure what would happen in a closed environment, though.

I really didn't notice anything happen. I can't guarantee that nothing will happen in your situation, however. My tank was on the other side of the room, so I wouldn't imagine that the vibrations would make it that far. I also can't say anything about long term effects on fish, as I didn't have fish in it the entire time because of a tank crash due to dying snails and a sea urchin while I was on vacation.

I believe the amount of stress drums cause will ultimately depend on the type of fish you wish to house.

I remember someone from Lionfish Lair having an anecdotal story about a misaligned powerhead and one of their lionfish stressing due the vibrations it was making. That being said though I haven't noticed any of my fish behaving any differently when playing bass guitar, although that may be slightly different than a bass drum.

I think you will be just fine. Of course I'm not a physicist but I don't think there will be any noticible vibrations inside your tank. It would take a lot of energy for vibrating air to make the glass of your tank vibrate with all that water pressure on it.

Like Bergeron said, playing a bass guitar with an amp turned up to the levels bass guitarists like to play at, he isn't noticing anything different. Your kick drum won't carry as much energy as a loud amp.

This reminds me of a mythbusters episode where they were setting off grenades above water to see if a super thin sheet of metal would rupture under the water. It took a lot more than a grenade to rupture the foil.

You should hear the music in the shop I work at...

Sound doesn't seem to bother the fish that I've seen.
