ok thanks my amonia is at 2.0 right now so i will have to wait awhile for it to finish the cycle. can i start putting fish and corals in right after it cycles?

yes but, be really slow in adding everything a good rule of thumb would be 1 week between fish with regular testing and 3-4 days for corals with regular testing to make sure you dont have a mini cycle.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Once you get values of 0 for ammonia and nitrite, I would do a water change of roughly 10-20% wait a day or two and retest. If you continue with a 0 value for ammonia and nitrite, and the nitrate level is with an acceptable level I would then proceed with a CUC. Stock the tank slowly one or 2 small fish at a time, allow the biological filter time to adjust and process their waste efficiently while monitoring parameters.

Most new systems have the most issues and casualties when stocked too quickly after the initial cycle or over stocked.

you should wait about a week or 2 after the tank "finnishes" cycling. keep testing every day and it should plateau. in a freshly set up tank(i assume this is) the biological filter is kinda weak so any changes can swing the parameters around in a hurry. add some small hardy fish(Clowns and Cromis and Cardinals oh my!) first as well as some hardy coral (zoas and GSP!) then wait another 2 weeks and monitor closely. if you dont notice any significant spikes(if ammonia is back, its a bad thing) then you are off to the races!

just always remember "go slow, let it grow"
