Hey Im working on setting up a 65 gal hex tank, and am getting $100.00 dollars for christmas from my grandparents (yeah im 14) anyway ill prob get more then that from other people and I have some money (but I need to spend it on other things besides rocks) anyway im thinking I would need about 50 pounds of dry rock.

Where is the best (and cheapest) place to get dry rock from, Ive been looking at Bulk Reef Supply and Marco Rocks, but which it better.

Is there any other place that I could get 50#'s for like $100?

Also I pay for this hobby myself and have other freshwater tanks so I would like to do this as cheaply as possible but I dont want crappy rocks, and I dont want like 2 rocks in the whole tank so please help me out. Plus I still have other things I need to buy so I dont want to spend more then I need to on rocks. Is 50 pounds enough for my tank?

This is kinda crazy im spending more on rocks then the tank itself.

check out craigs list, you can sometimes find deals on rock when people are splitting up reef tanks

also check out Reefcleaners, sponsors on this site, they have some good base rock and as a member you get a discount and they are often offering other discounts and good deals

Totally agree with Steve, craigslist is probably your best bet. If you decide to order off line, I've got rock from bulkreefsupply and it was a great product and relatively inexpensive. 50lbs should work for now, with a hex tank you don't want to get too much to begin with as it has a very small footprint compared to most other tanks, so you will end up with a vertical column if you get too much.

You won't get any better dry rock for the money than from reefcleaners.org. I just started my tank up with 50 pounds of dry Florida reef rock from these guys. The rock looks awesome and you don't have to worry about nuisance algae or pests hitch hiking on your live rock. I bought mine for $100.00 even for 50 pounds shipped.
