Can adding a DSB using live sand to an existing system cause a mini cycle? If so will I have this issue using dry sand. I cant get southdown or whatever here so what can I use.

My choices are and I would like to know peoples opinions on what they have used and their overall experience,

    1) kitty litter - dont get how I can keep it from turnin my tank brown.
    2) dolomite
    3) limestone - pulverized, pavestone
    4) live sand
    5) dry sand - What kind and where can I get it. Chicago area

i think adding live sand can cause a cycle in the same way adding live rock causes a cycle

the only reason a cycle happens is if you have dead organisms in the rock/sand. If its dry there should be no cycle (but make sure you wash it well)
