Gresh is right...the DTs is alive as long as it stays fresh. You'll know when it dies 'cause it starts smelling dead. The concentrate of algae in DTs is low because it actually is the live cultures. I've been using Liquid Life until my own cultures get going. The Liquid Life and the Instant-Algae are concentrates and kept cold to preserve them,  they are both very clean and have none of the growth formulae that can cause other "problem algae"  growth. Must be cool seeing the facilities Tres!! ;)

I just switched to using my own live grown nannochloropsis and will post what happens. I think I am going to get a microscope just for checking that and the rotifers I will be hatching.

There is a pretty good article about rotifers etc. at the AMDA site in their most recent newsletter. Also about making your own frozen fish food with gelatin.

I agree with Gresh I would avoid the Kents stuff. It's pretty nasty!!!

BTW glycerine is some mighty strange stuff. I used to use it to preserve plant material for Christmas decorations. It's used in the food and drug industry a lot. Yeah, it won't freeze in a regular freezer so the Liquid Life stays liquid. You will have a lot of stuff left in the bottle after the pump can't pump so make sure you rinse it out and use the goodies left in the container.

Man, I need to get my head screwed on right. First I thought the Queen thread was about an Angel fish and now I thought this was about having the shakes. [smiley=beer.gif] ;D

Oh, I've used DT's in the past and always thought it was alive.
