Robbed the fixture from my cichlid tank for my 75gal reef tank im building. Had to come up with something to use until I can afford to buy more lumber and such to build a proper canopy for the 55gal cichlid tank.

found a 16" diameter HVAC pipe in my garage that i cut down to make a reflector. found some aluminum l brackets and aluminum square tube stuff. cut it down, found a little plastic box that i put a switch in, wired up two sockets, and its working perfect! found a piece of plexi that i cut down to make a shield.

the hood looks ghetto, but its functional for now. ;D

so a year and a half ago i purchased a 55gal AGA tank which was intended for saltwater. i purchased a 4x54W-T5HO + 8 LED Moonlight fixture with ballasts and such off of ebay and then decided that a 55gal non-drilled AGA tank was not what i wanted for my reef tank. so i purchased a glass-cages.com 75gal drilled/built-in overflow tank. i then had some financial issues and decided to setup the 55gal as a cichlid tank. i used the T5 HO fixture but with only 1 10,000K bulb in it. it was sitting atop of the 2.5" wooden canopy i had built. i, last week, moved the T5 fixture to where it should be ontop of my 75gal. ive been working on setting up my 75gal now that i have some 'play' money again and needed something to get light to the cichlids till i could afford to build something solid and nice.

heres a pic of the 4-LED night light i soldered up last night. placed it on a 4"/3" piece of acrylic and put the electrical circuit board on 1/4" standoffs. drilled holes in the acrylic to allow the LED's to sit in.
