Not entirely... theoretically you can run an infinite number of skimmers off the same infinite sized sump with with infinite water flow at no degradation. Of course we aren't talking theory here, but with a large enough sump with enough water flow, the actual mechanics of setting up two skimmers doesn't matter as much. The key is making sure each skimmer has enough proteins to skim efficiently.

Would I do two skimmers? Probably not. It means twice the maintenance, twice the chance of something breaking, twice the tweaking, etc. I'd much rather get a single skimmer that is more than capable of handling the bio load in the tank.

I'm interested in seeing this. I've got an entire ROOM that I can devote to my filtration so will have room for a decent sized algae scrubber. It's something I've always wanted to try, but have never had the room for it.

What are you using for an algae mat holder? I was thinking about buying a pre-made plastic screen from Home Depot and suspending it in a holder.

I was either thinking that or using a tank divider screen, that way i know it wont mess anything up.

I have looked into them alot and think they are just what im after, Even though No SKIMMER sound cool I at the very lest wanted to try and see how it goes with mine.

Does sound like a cheeper alternitve to a skimmer though.

I belive this is the right thread Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everythin. It tells you alot of information and seems to be really reliable.

I wouldn't consider it an alternative - they both have the capability to remove different things.

agreed, but the alge scrubber claims it can remove all the contaminates wnd replace almost all tank filters.

will be using a skimmer and scrubber though :)

Go to any crafts store and get a piece of 7 mesh plastic canvas. Its about 25 cents for a 8.5x11 sheet. You can get a larger one that I think is 10.5 x 13 or so for 75 cents, not sure of the exact size but its larger. The other option is window screen but I don't think they stand up to the scrubbing as well. The plastic canvas has larger holes and thicker strands to it so it stands up better. They make it in 10 and 14 count but the holes are a lot smaller and don't allow water through it. It even comes in different colors in the 8.5x11 sheets. All of it still under a dollar a sheet. If you need a larger piece, you simply buy several sheets, some fishing line, and a needle and sew it together to make larger sheets.

I've been doing it for about 2 months. It took a while to get them both dialed in because the addition of a 2nd skimmer through off the first. I'm running a Warner Marine K2 cone skimmer and a prototype of the new line of the new upcoming line Warner Marine skimmers.
