I think Terry B had a nice article on fishes ....

Imagine living in a paradise like world. Suddenly handled roughly, stuck in a small space with some dangerous beings. Then finally dropped into a place different from what paradise you know. And even with dangeours diseases and parasites in this world.

Now what do we do with these people who do these to another living creature?

We call them "newbie aquarist". And if the animal dies we do not imprison them. We blame it to experience.

    ;) peace ;)

i have not personally read the artical. but have heard alot about it. and i'm not sticking up for anyone. but now, there are alot of younger people that act and don't know how it will effect themselves or others. my only question is, who is to blame? the children? parents or people around them? this question may never be answered!!!! all i know is that i did alot of bad things as i was a child that i thought meant nothing, and did no wrong. but in hind sight i know now people around the world would say i was satans spawn. like i said earlier, i'm not trying to protect anyone. it may be that i may be immune to such harsh behaviors. being that i am a former Marine. and i have seen and done alot of things that would boggle the mind of the average Joe. we need to try to put ourselves in there mindset, then try to make our judgement. not trying to protect anyone. just trying to open eveyones mind!!!!! who knows, maybe they honestly thought that they were doing no harm!!!!!

Hello! Reiple, could you link to the article? I really am not following the logic in your post...perhaps the article would help. Purposeful torture and killing of living things, IMHO, is different than accidental, incidental, and sometimes even neglectful loss of pet life due to inexperience.

Many serial killers of our time have pasts that include torture and killing of animals as precursor behaviors. That is what concerns me most.

Now, I don't feel they should be punished as if the crimes were against humans, but these children need serious intervention.

Sue and John, I don't think that reiple was trying to link the two topics but was just telling us of an interesting article he had read somewhere :)

    reiple,

If you find that article, please post it here under a separate topic, I would love to read it :)

    tresguey,

Well I uderstand what you wrote but cannot totally agree. From my point of view there is no need to understand what these people did or why they did it. The facts remain that they did something irresponsible and should be made to realise that fact using whatever means are available. Hate to get in my high horse, but those sharks are in an artificial environment, kept there for the pleasure and the study of people, those teens not only killed the sharks, they willfully destoyed property and then went ahead and caused mayhem.

It's all a matter of reponsibility and respect, neither of which these young people seem to have IMHO

john i see your point. and i do not agree what they did and i feel they do need to take resposibility for there actions. but on the other hand i strongly feel we NEED to try and find out why they did it and what was going on in there heads!!!! because we all know they will more than likely only get a slap on there hands. if we find out what is wrong in there heads maybe we can save a human life in the future. at the age of 13 thyey are willing to brutally slay gods creatures, who is to say they won't become the next night stalker. and there parents have a big part in it. this crime had to of happened late at night. my question is, why were they out that late at the age of 13?

This isn't exactly the same, but several yrs ago, at the Anchorage zoo, in Anchorage, Alaska. We had 2 teenage boys who had been drinking one warm summer night, they decided to take a swim at the zoo, unfortunately for them they choose the polar bear exhibit!! Guess they thought the bears were locked up at night???? anyways "Binky" the polar bear didn't take too kindly to them swimming in his pool, one of the boys was lucky and made it out, the other boy was attacked and Binky actually bit off most of his winkie...yup bit it right off, along with a small piece of his leg... he made it out, but he will never quite be the same again.. I will try to find the link to the story. Talk about instant karma!!
The boy tried to sue the zoo, but he had been trespassing and luckily we don't have the same judges as are in California, so they threw it out, and the boy actually went to prison for trespassing... guess he missed the sign that said... "Don't feed the bears"
