I just got a free nanocube 12 gal however all the lighting and the ballast has to be replaced. I already have an idea of what im going to do. i think im going to get one of those viper HQI metal halide clamp lamp (70 or 150 watt), but my question for today is kind oof dumb. I cant seem to get the lid off the cube. Is there a way to get the lid off without completely breaking it off the hinges (or sawing it off the hinges)? There doesnt seem to be a way. Its a JBJ nanocube (i dont know if thats an old model or not?) So...if anyone has any suggestions or past experience with nanocubes then your advice would be much appreciated.

    thnx

I've got an Oceanic, but on mine there are 2 sides (pins) on each hinge

The pins separate and then allow the hood to slide off...HTH :(

Ahhh! I had this same problem...ugh it was so frustrating! eventually...before the hinges snap it comes out. I went to the JBJ warehouse (they are right here in los angeles) and they did it for me...pretty scary though.

You might want to call them and see what they say, but I do believe it will slip off.

Brad, check out nanotuners if you haven't already. They have all sorts of lighting upgrades for cubes. I got my wife 1 of the JBJ12's & I can't for the life of me figure out how the top comes off.

there are philips head screws you can access from the top. there are two, one for each clip that holds the hood on. once you remove the screws, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the clips off of the back.

    Hope that helps ya,
