Duncan colony Mantis shrimp victim?

I was wondering if any one has every had a mantis shrimp attack a colony of duncan corals? I know I have a mantis shrimp in my reef tank, and it has been taking out fish left and right, however today one of my colonies of duncans disappeared. And i meen disappeared-coral skeleton and all. It was uprooted from the sand bed and drug into the rock work by something. Im assuming the dang mantis? Any thoughts? The duncan was only a two head colony so it was small.

 

A mantis can and will move frags to redecorate should it feel the need but it is usually to build around its lair, so it should be a good indicator of where its hiding.

Was it a hitch hiker in some live rock or an intentionally placed mantis? A fair amount of mantis hitch hikers are smashers not slashers, and would go after the clean up crew first. What are all of your tank occupants, and params and so forth? Not saying your mantis isnt the cause, but may not be the sole culpirit.

I have two mantis, a w.wennerae and a peacock, both are in tanks with fish and have never bothered them. inverts and cuc's though not thats another story.

 

Just a late update...finally captured the culpret. After months of unsuccessfully setting crab and shrimp traps I captured it. It wasnt even a mantis shrimp. The culpret was a Brown Teddy Bear Crab. And the best part... after months of darkness, being stashed away deep within my live rock with no light, the duncan colony and the frog spawn colony that the crab stole were found...alive. They looked dead but i put them in my frag tank-just dropped them in to make sure and sure enough he corals popped out after a few days and are doing just fine. Weird eh?
